I should like to bear witness to the fact that Christian Science heals. I first heard of this Science while visiting a friend. I picked up a copy of "Miscellaneous Writings," a book which Mrs. Eddy dedicated to loyal Christian Scientists, and read an article entitled "Taking Offense" (pp. 223, 224), which was just what I needed, as I liked few people and none who disagreed with my viewpoints.
I asked my friend about Mrs. Eddy's books, and she explained that Christian Science is a religion of love and that it would and did heal all kinds of ailments. My father was an orthodox minister, and from what I knew of religion, this seemed too much to expect, but I was interested and read Mrs. Eddy's Poems and all her other writings before I really became interested in the most important book of all, the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
At that time I used medical remedies, including a throat gargle each night and morning, also eye drops. One night I read the Christian Science Sentinel before going to sleep, and the following morning, as I started to use the gargle and eye drops, I realized I had forgotten them the night before and had felt no ill effects. The thought came to me to do without them entirely. This happened in 1929, and I have not "used them since.
