TRUE INCENTIVE

From the June 1950 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"It is the love of God, and not the fear of evil, that is the incentive in Science," our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us on page 279 of "Miscellaneous Writings."

As we ponder this arresting statement, we rejoice in the realization that all true progress in the world has come through this great love of God. The love of God has caused men and women throughout the ages to look above and away from sense and self and has thus brought peace, harmony, and health both to individuals and to nations.

The many wonderful characters in the Bible accomplished great good, not because of any personal sense or self-aggrandizement, but because their whole desire was to do God's will. Their thought was so filled with the love of God that this destroyed in their consciousness any fear of being separated from the divine All-power, which was caring for and protecting them.
