In 1931 a testimony of mine was published in the Journal, and I should at this time like to express my increasing gratitude for Christian Science. While I have known and loved this religion all my life, I am finding that the experiences of the so-called human life are a daily challenge that can be a joy to the Christian Scientist.
At one time I found myself laid upon a bed of pain from which I believed I was unable to rise. I do not know what the medical diagnosis would have been, but I have heard of similar conditions being diagnosed as sciatic rheumatism. I was in bed about fifteen days, during which time there was no bowel movement. I had help from a Christian Science practitioner, and from the first I knew that our heavenly Father sent His angels constantly to my aid. Throughout this experience I was conscious of great gratitude for the Christ as revealed in Christian Science and for God, because as the Bible says (I Chron. 16:34), "His mercy endureth for ever." In spite of the pain, most of the time I was conscious of the actual presence of the Christ.
Many passages from Mrs. Eddy's writings and from the hymns in the Christian Science Hymnal were with me during the above experience, helping and encouraging me, as did the blessings of a quiet little home and a family who are Christian Scientists. I am grateful for the Christian Science periodicals. A poem in a Christian Science Sentinel proved to be an angel thought which did its part in sustaining my husband and me during that difficult and seemingly dark moment.
