Christian Science has benefited me immeasurably for many years. The first convincing proof of its power to overcome physical discord was a healing I experienced of a so-called incurable hereditary disease called diabetes, from which my father had passed on. My health became impaired, and a medical diagnosis indicated that I had the symptoms of that disease. I was placed on a strict diet, but this afforded no relief. I knew something of Christian Science through a sister-in-law, who was one of the pioneers of the Christian Science movement in Canada where I was at that time; but I had no faith in it, and was in fact quite antagonistic to what I thought it was. However, after I had endured this unhappy condition for some months, during which time it became increasingly evident that materia medica was powerless to cope with my condition, I was led to seek Christian Science help.
I visited a practitioner who, after listening to my story, informed me that the difficulty was unreal and untrue. She promised to help me and asked me to read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, as well as the Bible. I was willing to do so, but I had no copy of the textbook, and Reading Rooms were not open at that time. She said, "I will sell you my copy, because I can buy one in a few hours; but let me tell you, if I could not buy another, I would not part with this one for a million dollars."' That statement so impressed me that I have never forgotten it. As I left her office to take a train on a necessary journey, her admonition was, "Read Science and Health, eat what is set before you and be grateful for it." I went to the dining car, ordered whatever appealed to me and ate it with comfort and satisfaction. That marked the end of my dieting. I was healed in three treatments, and that experience was over thirty-four years ago.
Throughout the years that have followed I have been a student of Christian Science and have had the happy privilege of serving in many capacities in branch church activities. I have experienced a growing sense of health and harmony, an increasing serenity of thought, and uninterrupted joyous activity. Innumerable problems of supply, occupation, location, and human relations, as well as of physical inharmonies, have been solved when the facts of true being have been recognized and the laws relating thereto have been faithfully applied.
