At a time of a diphtheria epidemic in the small town in which I lived as a child. I was suffering from this disease. As the law in this state required a report of such a case to the medical authorities, my mother complied. The doctor who diagnosed the condition advised giving antitoxin immediately. My mother informed him, however, that we were Christian Scientists and that she would trust the case to God. In a few days I was healed.
I should also like to tell of three other experiences which show the efficacy of Christian Science in the face of so-called material law. Some time ago I was instantaneously healed of an injured foot. An X-ray picture showed badly torn ligaments, and I suffered extreme pain until the time the practitioner was called, when all pain left me instantly, and I used the foot constantly all that day and from then on with no ill effects.
At another time, in the case of childbirth, when the complications were considered so serious that I was not expected to live through the night, I recovered through Christian Science treatment. On another occasion I experienced almost painless dentistry in spite of the dentist's declaration that a sedative would have to be taken. I have also been healed of hay fever and sick headaches; the latter disappeared soon after my decision to join a branch church.
