"ONE RACE, ONE REALM, ONE POWER"

From the April 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"The Lord God omnipotent reigneth" (Rev. 19:6). What infinite blessings world affairs will gain when men awaken to the mighty actuality of this statement from John's Revelation, glimpse with increased spiritual understanding its far-reaching import for mankind, and replace ineffectual human striving with effectual demonstration of the divine fact, stated by Mary Baker Eddy in her poem "The New Century" (Poems, p. 22), "Love hath one race, one realm, one power."

Undeniably there is only one way the truths just mentioned can appear in human affairs, and that is by the demonstration and reflection of divine Love. When we see to what extent beliefs of clashing temperaments and personalities, and conduct unlike divine Principle, Love, seem to be evidenced in human thinking, we realize that world peace and world unity may not be achieved in a moment. At the same time we know that they can be attained by devotion of thought to this end. But it does require fidelity and, above all, a surrender of the beliefs of material sense: personal desires, personal ambitions, personal habits, and personal history. Indeed, to unify the races requires Love demonstrated: steadfast thinking that loves universally, speaking that is from the basis of Love, conduct that is loving because it emanates from Love.

"One race, one realm, one power"— what arresting words in times when the carnal mind, with an imposing array of personal sense testimony, attempts to mesmerize everyone into believing that war is real, that global conflict continues, and that there is no escape from chaos for all nations and peoples. Today's situation tries to occupy mankind completely with the material aspects and to mesmerize scientific thinkers into trying to correct the human with the human, which obviously cannot be done. But by turning thought immediately and wholly to the allness of infinite Mind, God, one can perceive that what appear as distressing world conditions are but false mortal mind concepts which require something more than material effort and planning. The law of divine Principle, Love, recognized as the only law and permitted to be present and active in one's thinking, will give to the race the sure means for eliminating these distressing pictures.
