Christian Science has brought numerous...

From the August 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has brought numerous blessings into my life, It found me twenty-eight years ago in deep mental distress, and it has led me step by step into a clearer sense of the consciousness of life in God. Christian Science has been a never-failing help to me and my three children, and it has showed us that God is the only physician.

About five years ago I was knocked down by an automobile, and when I was picked up I found that I could not stand and was suffering from shock. However, I clung to the thought of God and His idea, man, with all my strength. Then I heard one of the men who had gathered round say that the best thing to do was to take me to a hospital. That statement was like a clarion call. I did not want to go to the hospital, for I knew I was safe right where I was, in divine Mind. The clear realization of this fact enabled me to indicate by shaking my head that I did not wish to go, and soon, by clinging to the truth, I was able to speak and say that I would continue with my journey to town to do my errand. Two men lifted me up and put me in their car, for I was unable to stand alone. I clung to the truth of being, and after a fifteen-minute ride I was able to get out of the car unassisted and do my errand. Twice on the way I felt like saying to some friends I met, "Something dreadful has happened to me." However, the angel of His presence always whispered in time, "Nothing has happened, for accidents are not known to God." So I told no one.

On the way home my left leg swelled until it was shapeless, and I had to overcome the desire to ask some passer-by to take me home. But God proved to be my strength. When I arrived home I took my books and read the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. With a grateful heart I read the Golden Text, which was (Ps. 118: 17), "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord."
