I have had many physical healings in Christian Science, but I think I am grateful most of all for a healing of despondency and listlessness. Almost all my life, until I became interested in this Science, I had been unable to find a satisfactory reason for human existence, and I became morose and unfriendly. Christian Science steadily and surely healed me, and I am now happy and grateful for this new-found freedom and for the truth that man is the perfect idea of God, and not a helpless, sinning mortal.
My first healing was an instantaneous one of pulmonary tuberculosis. I had been discharged from the Air Corps during World War II and was feeling much self-pity for having been deprived of what I considered my right place as a pilot in the United States Air Corps. About two months later traveled to the West Coast, where a loving friend acquainted me with Christian Science. Although I was at first indifferent to it, I decided to visit a practitioner and ask for help. Two days later an X ray which was taken at a local Veterans' Administration hospital, where I had to report, revealed perfectly normal lungs. An instantaneous healing had taken place. I could hardly understand that I was healed, and the doctors could not comprehend it either. This demonstration of God's care made me realize that Christian Science does heal in the simplest and most beautiful way.
I am grateful for freedom from the belief that my position in the service was indispensable to my happiness and success. Divine Science has shown me that our work is to he the perfect expression of Mind, God.
