In the past fifteen years the members of our family have had many healings and other blessings through Christian Science. One healing which is outstanding to me took much longer than any other in my experience. The cause for the delay was the fact that there had been an accumulation of erroneous thoughts, which had brought a congested physical condition. No medical diagnosis was sought, of course, but the illness appeared to be bronchial pneumonia with complications.
Mrs. Eddy says on page 420 of our textbook, Science and Health, "If students do not readily heal themselves, they should early call an experienced Christian Scientist to aid them." This wise admonition prompted me to seek help. By my doing so, both the practitioner and I were greatly blessed. Long, hard battles were fought with self-condemnation, self-ignorance, irritation, criticism, resentment, limitation, and hatred. Fear in many forms was uncovered, for as Jesus tells us (Matt. 10:26). "There is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known."
The healing came with a great flood of purification in my thinking and brought more love, self-knowledge, and humility—qualities necessary to work successfully in the Father's vineyard, which it is my earnest desire to do. I did not submit to the temptation to seek material aid, knowing I must have but one God. Great love and patience were expressed by the practitioner and by friends and members of the family, who helped to hold up my hands at various times when there was great need.
