Testimonies of Healing

From the October 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a heart full of gratitude that I testify to the healing power of Christian Science. I am deeply grateful to God, the Giver of all good, for the many blessings and healings I have received since taking up the study of Christian Science. I am grateful that through the study and application of Christian Science I am gaining a better understanding of the Christ, which Jesus, our Way-shower and Exemplar, demonstrated.

Several months ago I was involved in an automobile accident. My car was struck on the side where I was sitting at the wheel. The impact was so great that it hurled the car into the air and then turned it over, completely demolishing it. Upon regaining consciousness, I felt unable to breathe, but I kept clinging to the thought of the allness of God and man's relationship to Him. The pressure from the ribs against my left lung was most severe, but I affirmed as best I could that I was living in God and not in physicality.

When the police officer arrived and told me that he had called the ambulance which would take me to the hospital I refused the ambulance and asked to he taken home. He said that I was seriously injured and had broken bones, making it necessary for me to go to the hospital. I then told him that I was a Christian Scientist and that I desired to have help in Christian Science. He consented to my request, and my wife, who had been called on the telephone, came and took me home. A Christian Science practitioner was called and began working for me immediately.

I had to lie flat on my back, but in about two weeks the injured hip. knee, leg, elbow, and broken ribs were so improved that with assistance I was able to get out of bed. I soon returned to my place of employment, where I had to be on my feet eight hours a day and to do some heavy lifting. Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for this proof of the power of divine Mind to set and heal broken bones. Our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, says (Science and Health, p. 167): "The scientific government of the body must be attained through the divine Mind. It is impossible to gain control over the both in any other way. On this fundamental point, timid conservatism is absolutely inadmissible. Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power lie realized."

I am also very grateful for the many proofs I had of God's ever-present protection and healing power in World War II during my service with the United States Army. In the jungles of India and Burma I was protected not only from the enemy but also from the intense heat, which at times reached 145 degrees. I was also protected from a cobra and other poisonous snakes, and I was healed of malaria and dysentery.

I am humbly grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, for class instruction, and for the loving help of our consecrated practitioners.—

I am happy to verify the foregoing testimony of my husband and to express my gratitude for the healings which he has experienced through absolute reliance upon Christian Science. Also I wish to express mi profound gratitude for the many healings and blessings which I have received through the study and application of Christian Science.—
