A Thanksgiving edition of The Christian Science Monitor was my introduction to Christian Science a little over forty years ago. It was sent to me by my mother, who had placed me in the home of a friend when I was three months old because she had been given up to die of a dread disease. My mother was instantaneously healed when she took up the study of Christian Science in 1892, and twenty years later we were reunited.
At the time I became interested in this Science I was suffering from a hip condition which I had had since childhood and which had caused one leg to be shorter than the other. Through work done in Christian Science the leg lengthened, but the hip condition was not entirely overcome. I kept dose to the truths gained from my study of Christian Science, and although the healing took four years, it was complete. During that time I was also healed of a severe case of athlete's foot.
I have had many healings throughout the years, so many that space does not permit my telling them all. I was healed of grief at the passing on of our son, who was a pilot in the United States Army Air Force. When the news reached me I was stunned and shocked. All that night I prayed for courage and strength and kept declaring that God is Life and that there is no death. I had prayed to God to direct me to the practitioner who could best meet my need, and in the morning I went to a neighbor's house to telephone for help. An hour after the practitioner began to work for me I felt calm and at peace I was then able to sustain the rest of my family and attend to all details.
