ERROR IS NOTHING

From the April 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

There is no stubborn belief, no problem too difficult, to bring to a right solution. Such statements without a basis of proof would be mere empty words, but in the light of Christian Science they are capable of demonstration.

What does God know of stubborn beliefs or of mortal mind's claim that one disease or problem is more difficult to heal than another? Every alert student of Christian Science knows that such a false claim is part of the belief that there is reality in evil or that there is a material body in which error or disease can find lodgment. A Christian Science treatment is based on the premise that man exists now as spiritual idea at the standpoint of perfection. It says in effect (I John 3:2), "Now are we the sons of God." The perfect Father-Mother must have a perfect creation. The sons and daughters of God, made in His likeness, inherit from their divine Parent only divine qualities. As the manifestation of the one infinite Mind, God, each perfect idea is included in Mind and expresses that Mind alone.

It is of no consequence, then, what name materia medica gives to a disease or what mortal mind claims is the degree of its difficulty or duration, if it is clear that these claims are but the objectification of mortal mind thinking. As such they have no more reality than a picture thrown upon a screen, and no more power to assail or afflict. It may be well to note here that when we watch a motion picture we are in the dark. When a strong light is turned on, the picture is gone. Also we might observe that unless there is a film there is no picture. Christ Jesus said (John 8:12), "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." Those who earnestly strive to walk in the footsteps of the Master can claim for themselves this "'light of life," which banishes the darkness of mortal beliefs and destroys the mist which obscures the truth.
