In Exodus we find these words (3:2, 3): "And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt."
These words recall my first healing in Christian Science. I was suffering from severe physical ills and had consulted well-known physicians in various parts of the country. They pronounced a serious sinus infection and a hopeless kidney condition. I had spent many years in and out of hospitals taking various treatments, but there had been no improvement. I had lost a great deal of weight and was in a weakened and run-down condition.
At this time a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was placed in my hands. After reading the first few chapters I noticed quite an improvement, and upon finishing the book I realized that I was completely healed. It seemed to me that a miracle had happened. I recalled Mrs. Eddy's words in the Preface to Science and Health (p. xi), where she speaks of physical healing in Christian Science today being the same as in Jesus' time: "Now, as then, these mighty works are not supernatural, but supremely natural." I did not understand this at the time, but I turned from all material ways and means of healing to the study and application of divine Science. The healing has been permanent, and for over ten years Christian Science has met my every need. I have had many proofs that Science is the promised Comforter.
