Christian Science was presented to me in 1938 by my mother, who had been a Scientist for a long time. I was then in despair over a physical condition which the treatments of several doctors had failed to cure. The last diagnosis, after which an operation was tentatively recommended, made me decide to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, something I had refused to do up to that time. I felt that in any case it could do me no harm.
From the first page I was won over, for the book was truly a revelation to me and its truths were just what I had been seeking for a long time. What impressed me most was its affirmation that in reality all is harmony. I applied this affirmation of harmony to everything and thus was rid of irrational and groundless fears. I was so enthusiastic about this book that I did not notice when my healing took place. But one day I found in a drawer some eyeglasses which I had forgotten about. Then I realized that I had been healed of eye trouble amounting at times to total blindness. I was also healed of sinus trouble, a stomach trouble which had caused great suffering, and a persistent pain in one shoulder.
During World War II Christian Science was a source of strength to me and a marvelous protection, saving me and my family from situations which seemed inextricable, sometimes just by our holding to the simple truth that since good alone exists, there can be no danger, no hate, no evil, hence nothing to fear. Afterwards I received instantaneous healings of a strained back and earaches, and protection for myself and others was experienced in automobile, motorboat, streetcar, and bicycle accidents.
