UNIVERSAL LOVE, THE DIVINE WAY

From the January 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?" (Jer. 8:22.) Pertinent question indeed, one that is still being echoed today.

Certainly general and permanent health, together with world-wide redemption from sin, famine, calamity, war, has not been accomplished through the exercise of widespread selfishness or the use, for generations, of material remedies. But thanks be to God, the right way, whereby all mankind can escape from every form of hell, has been found. Pointing out God's perfect plan for the salvation of mankind, Mary Baker Eddy writes in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 266), "Universal Love is the divine way in Christian Science."

Herein is the hope of the world, the pearl of great price. Right now, through the true idea of illimitable Love revealed by Christian Science, all people may go forth to apprehend, adore, and exemplify this divine Love, which is God. As they do so, infinite Love becomes to them the one altogether lovely Being, the divine All-power, before whose omnipresence, realized, disease melts into nothingness, sin vanishes as a dream, and evil is seen to be without entity, place, or power. In Christian Science. Love is revealed as the creative Principle, Spirit, Mind, whose creation is spiritual man and the universe, forever reflecting the universal loving and immortal being of this one perfect God. We practice this Science as this reflection of divine loveliness is permitted to appear in us.
