One of the first Christian Science healings that came to my attention was that of an aunt, who had pellagra in its last stages, after the doctor had given her only three weeks to live. She was healed of the malady within a very short time and is alive and active today.
I have been healed of many physical ailments through the constant study and application of the truth, as given in the Bible and in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I have also witnessed many healings in our home. I was healed of appendicitis several years ago after I had given up all hope of recovery. A member of my family who is a practitioner advised me to read the eleventh chapter of Hebrews and gave me a treatment. Then she quoted Mrs. Eddy's words (Science and Health, p. 124), "Adhesion, cohesion, and attraction are properties of Mind." All pain left me immediately, and I was able to arise from my bed perfectly well and whole.
As the result of an injury, I suffered a dislocated anklebone. Work was done in Christian Science, and the pain left me, but the swelling remained for several months. One night I turned to page 496 in Science and Health and read, "Hold perpetually this thought,—that it is the spiritual idea, the Holy Ghost and Christ, which enables you to demonstrate, with scientific certainty, the rule of healing, based upon its divine Principle, Love, underlying, overlying, and encompassing all true being." I received such a clear realization of "Love, underlying, overlying, and encompassing all true being" that I felt my anklebone slip into place. The next time I looked at the ankle the swelling was all gone, and the healing was evident.
