This testimony is long overdue. Early in 1914 I rented a room in the home of a student of Christian Science. I had been dieting and fasting on account of a stomach complaint for about five years with some occasional relief but no permanent cure. When my fears were related to this student she tried to direct my thought to Christian Science. There was some stubborn resistance to break down in my thinking before I could ask for Christian Science treatment. After further attacks of the stomach trouble, however, I asked for Science treatment, and to my great surprise an instantaneous healing of this chronic ailment occurred. I felt like a new person.
Later I began the study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly and attended some Christian Science lectures. There was no rapid growth in my understanding, but I knew that I had found the truth. I was encouraged to continue studying, which I have done throughout the years since then, thus receiving many blessings.
During the summer of 1950, while traveling in Scotland, I incurred a severe facial condition. One side of the fare became badly swollen, and the pain was intense. Sleep became a stranger. My fellow bus passengers were alarmed at my appearance, and most of them wanted me to try their favorite material remedies, no two of which were alike. I remained with the tour, and at the end of the sixth day returned to Edinburgh, where the trip had begun.
