With a heart full of gratitude to God for the priceless gift of Christian Science, I send this testimony. I wish especially to mention the blessing of class instruction, for as a direct result of it I have had a very beautiful healing of two conditions—obesity and loneliness.
I had been a student of Christian Science for a good many years and had been fairly active in church work, but somehow I had never taken the steps leading to class instruction. One week there appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel an article which made me exclaim to myself after I had read it, "Why, that's what class would do for me —give me a new and fresh view of a familiar subject!" From time to time I reread the article, and each time the desire for class teaching grew stronger until finally I made application to a consecrated teacher and was accepted by him. The weeks of preparation were most joyous; I spent every possible minute studying. The Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings seemed as new as if I had never read them before. My desire to know more of Christian Science superseded all else.
I went to class weighing two hundred and ten pounds. The second or third day, as I was looking up a reference that had been given for study, I noticed that Mrs. Eddy speaks of gluttony as a sensual illusion (Science and Health, p. 221). I could not remember ever having seen her words before, although I know I must have read them many times. As the two weeks of class progressed, I noticed that I was satisfied with less food. When I arrived home at the end of class instruction I found that I had lost eight pounds. Less food continued to satisfy me. I was eating something of whatever was on the table, but only about a third as much as formerly.
