Christian Science was first presented to me when I was a young girl studying in a conservatory of music in a large city. I have experienced numerous healings from that time on; but for many years I relied mostly upon the help of practitioners, doing little metaphysical work for myself.
When the sudden passing on of my husband left me with a fifteen-year-old son to raise I experienced a complete mental breakdown resulting from grief, loneliness, worry, and fear of the future. Friends placed me in one hospital after another, the last one being a state hospital. In these institutions electric shocks and various therapy treatments were administered, but they only increased my fears.
Finally, while I was on parole from the state hospital, my guardian succeeded in securing my admission to a sanatorium which was conducted by Christian Scientists. I stayed in this place for two years, during which time I had the help of a practitioner and the tender and devoted care of the associates and nurses employed there. The peaceful, loving atmosphere all about me made this sanatorium a haven for study and healing, and I was given freedom to work out my own salvation without domination.
