Because my heart is so full of joyous thanksgiving, I wish to express my gratitude for Christian Science once again through one of our periodicals. Since my first testimony, published in 1936, I have had a number of physical healings, among them those of heavy colds, lumbago, and the effects of accidents. Grief was instantly overcome when a dear friend passed on suddenly in my home early one Sunday morning. It was able to serve that morning in church as Second Reader. How grateful I was that day for a clear realization of the eternality of Life and of the sustaining power of divine Love.
Often today we hear of those who are having difficulty in locating a suitable home. Having had three lovely experiences in working out such a problem, I should like to relate them in the hope that they will help others. The first occurred when I had been a student of Christian Science only a few years. Because of fear and inexperience, I was tempted to purchase a house that would not have proved entirely satisfactory. But one day I read the Scripture (Isa. 54:2), "Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes." The realization came to me that it was my thinking that needed enlarging, the limitations in my consciousness that needed removing, the cords of love that needed to be lengthened to include others, and the stakes of spiritual understanding that needed to be strengthened. In a short time a simple but most adequate house was built for me in a new subdivision.
Later, when it seemed desirable to move to another section of the city, I tried for two or three years to trade or sell this house, but I was unsuccessful. There was another one which I liked, but the price was greater than I felt was justified. In the meantime I joined a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. One day it came to me that I had given but little to this church. After thinking it over I gave a check to the church for practically all I had in the bank.
