I came to Christian Science because of an internal organic disorder, for which I had already undergone one operation and had been advised by a physician to have another. I had witnessed two outstanding healings through Christian Science, which convinced me that it is the truth that heals. I went to a practitioner and placed my case before her, saying, "I haven't any faith, but if you can heal me, please do." She replied, "Your coming here for help proves you do have faith." I obtained Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and read the chapter on Prayer several times. As I continued to study and to visit the practitioner, my healing was quickly accomplished.
Soon afterward I visited a brother who was very ill with grippe. He told me about his distressed feeling, and something prompted me to say, "If you will not use any medicine, I will work for you as we are taught in Christian Science." He expressed great surprise to hear that I had accepted Christian Science, but he immediately stated that he would do anything I said.
I did not know how to give a treatment, but I prayed, "Father, what must I know?" The answer came clearly, "Know man's relationship to God." Then I reasoned: I know that God made all that was made and called it very good. Is sickness good? Does God know man as sick? Does He not, rather, know him as His beloved son, made in His own image and therefore under His divine care? I declared man's immunity from sickness and thanked God that I knew the truth which makes free. With joy in my heart I arose and went to the piano, where I played and sang hymns. Soon I heard my brother singing and whistling, and I knew he was healed. At intervals through the day I thanked God for answered prayer. That evening my brother was entirely well, and we attended a social gathering. A friend asked what had happened to him to bring about such a transformation. He told her of my visit and said, "Suddenly I felt as if a blanket had dropped from my head to the floor, and I was perfectly free."
