For over thirty years Christian Science has met my every need, and I feel that I should no longer withhold my grateful testimony of the benefits and healings I have received from its teachings. I have learned that only radical reliance on God brings healing and fulfills the Biblical promise (John 8:31, 32), "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
The first healing in our family occurred when our infant son was suffering from a stomach difficulty due to food deficiency. When it became apparent that medical aid was bringing no relief and that he was steadily growing worse, I turned to Christian Science for help. Some months before, a friend had presented this religion to me, but at the time I was not aware of any particular need and so did not give it much thought. Our son's condition now gave me an opportunity to try this medicine of Mind, and I called a Christian Science practitioner for help. In less than three days the healing was complete, and a food formula was found which met the child's need. I was grateful for this healing, which seemed so miraculous to me that I wanted to learn more about Christian Science. I began attending services at a Church of Christ, Scientist, and later became a member of the church.
A healing of an abscessed tooth took place about five years ago while I was serving as Second Reader in a branch church. A few days before I was to introduce a Christian Science lecturer, my jaw became so swollen and painful that I was apprehensive about being able to perform this duty. Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health, p. 385), "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself." A little farther on she says that "mind decides whether or not the flesh shall be discolored, painful, swollen, and inflamed." As I held to these truths the pain and swelling soon disappeared, and I was able to fill my place at the appointed time. There has been no recurrence of the trouble.
