INDIVIDUAL SALVATION

[Original article in German]

From the November 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

All of us find ourselves more or less in bondage to sensuousness, sin, suffering, and fear, although nearly two thousand years ago Jesus taught us by precept and example what we should do, and refrain from doing, to escape the evils of mortal existence. Most men, however, find the steps leading to salvation too toilsome, because they require much selflessness and overcoming.

Deep in their hearts all men have a longing for something purer and holier, a yearning that will not be satisfied with less than a clear understanding of God, our Father-Mother. For does not finding Him mean finding the source of all supply, health, happiness, and abundance? Intelligence and understanding are dimmed until the temptations and false beliefs of a concept of existence apart from God are overcome.

How happy and grateful we may be that God opened the eyes of that noble and selfless woman, Mary Baker Eddy, enabling her to see through the delusions and follies of mortals! To her we are indebted for the inspired teachings of Christian Science. She gave us practical instructions on how to comply with the demands of our Way-shower and to demonstrate the Christ-consciousness, the recognition of the true facts of being, which alone brings complete salvation.
