Testimonies of Healing

For many years the testimonies appearing...

From the April 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For many years the testimonies appearing in our periodicals have been a source of much inspiration and joy, and now I should like to share my own. I have been particularly blessed, because since the age of six I have been a witness that Christian Science is the way of Life. In retrospect, I can see how God's guiding hand was gently leading me. This was especially evident in the manner in which my husband and I first met and the subsequent steps leading to our marriage. During the twenty years since then we have been the recipients of God's beneficent goodness and protection.

I have always been grateful for the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner when our children were born. In the months previous to the arrival of our younger child, my sincere desire was that I be a credit to the Cause of Christian Science, because I felt that the benefits I had received with the older child had come through the prayerful work of a practitioner. As a result the entire experience was one of complete freedom. The last few hours preceding the birth were occupied in playing the hymns from our Christian Science Hymnal. Many weeks before, the practitioner had asked me to study lines 19-21 on page 445 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. As the birth was about to take place, I was completely relaxed and free.

Four months before this same baby was born I had fallen with considerable force full length and face downward on the floor. I mentioned this to no one, not even to the practitioner, and dismissed it from my thinking so completely that I never thought of it again until the child was eighteen months old. Since he was not yet walking, I associated that fact with the accident. Finally I realized that because this association was not known to anyone except myself, then the only place it existed was in my own thinking. When I was willing to accept this fact and correct my thought, the child walked.
