Mrs. Eddy tells us on page 266 of Science and Health that Love will force us to accept what best promotes our growth.
The glorious privilege of class instruction had been mine, and I was eagerly awaiting my first association meeting. To my dismay the manager of the firm for which I worked refused me the necessary time off from work. I had much to do to put out all sense of resentment. However, I achieved this eventually by knowing I could be about my Father's business right where I was. Thanks to the kindness of my teacher, who sent me references on the subject for the meeting, I know that I gained much of the blessing given out at the association.
However, when the same obstacle was again put in my way the following year, I realized that there was some definite step I had to take. After prayerful consideration I quite plainly saw that I must resign my post. I wrote out my resignation, but the next morning I was tempted to withhold it. Error suggested: "You may be out of work for months. You've no home. Take the time off, and let the firm dismiss you, if it wants to." However, I knew I must take a stand for Principle; so I handed in my resignation.
