WE CAN DEMONSTRATE TRUTH NOW

From the July 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Demonstration is proof. Whatever is provable at any time is equally provable at this moment. What is needed is an understanding of the method to be used to bring about demonstration. The provable knowledge of God and man is clearly set forth in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. In this textbook our Leader writes (p. 323), "We must recollect that Truth is demonstrable when understood, and that good is not understood until demonstrated." She also says (p. 272): "The spiritual sense of truth must be gained before Truth can be understood. This sense is assimilated only as we are honest, unselfish, loving, and meek."

Here in these two passages is set forth the way to demonstrate Truth, or God, in daily living. Through the exercise of the Christlike qualities of honesty, unselfishness, love, and meekness, we gain the spiritual sense of Truth, or true goodness, and come to understand God and His creation as wholly good. This spiritual understanding of the infinitely good nature of God and of man, His reflection, brings with it the power to demonstrate Truth.

Each individual can gain this power and use it to solve his problems right where he is. "Now is the day of salvation," declared the Apostle Paul (II Cor. 6:2). Perhaps we may think that we are already completely honest, unselfish, loving, and meek, but unless we are blinded by self-righteousness or self-justification, we shall find that we can improve a little if we thoroughly examine our own consciousness.
