OUR SURE DEFENSE

From the July 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The great Christian reformer Martin Luther had an abiding sense of God's unfailing dominion and His availability to all men under all conditions. Looking to Him as an ever-present help, he could write,

With Him we shall prevail,
Whatever may assail;
He is our shield and tower,
Almighty is His power;
His kingdom is forever.

Throughout the Bible, God is referred to as our defense against all evil, a rock, a secret dwelling place, a strong and abiding tower. But the question has often been asked by men and nations, "How can we avail ourselves of this great defense, this hiding place from the storms of material sense?" And the answer comes: "Refuge from all of earth's ills is attained through the spiritual understanding of God and His creation as presented in Christian Science."
