TRUE COMMUNICATION

From the August 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"The divine Principle of man speaks through immortal sense," we read on page 72 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." On the same page its author, Mary Baker Eddy, says, "Not personal intercommunion but divine law is the communicator of truth, health, and harmony to earth and humanity." Mankind in general believes, however, that communication consists of information conveyed by one mortal to another; and this information often bears testimony to sickness, sin, war, hatred, and death. The student of Christian Science soon learns that there is no such information actually being relayed.

Basing his reasoning on the teachings of the Scriptures, he acknowledges that there is but one God, who is omniscient divine Mind, the infinite consciousness from which emanate all the ideas comprising the spiritual universe. Since the nature of the one Mind, as iterated and reiterated in the Bible, is wholly good, the ideas conceived by Mind must evidence its nature. Just as the sun communicates itself through its rays, so the true spiritual man bears witness to the infinite goodness of his creator. God communicates to His children health, wealth, peace, joy, and harmony.

Who or what is it that appears to tell us that there is discord on every side? This pseudo information claims to come through another person, the radio, the telephone, the press, or more often through our own thought. We need not be deceived, however, by the specious argument that there are mortal channels of communication through which erring suggestions can reach us. We can know, instead, that man is created by God and that what God knows of His child is all that child can be conscious of. God is forever speaking to man of His endless goodness, and truly we can hear no other voice but His. We cannot succumb to the temptation to listen to false evidence about ourselves or others when we realize that there is in reality no mortal mind to send forth such evil tidings, nor is there any mortal consciousness upon which it can be impressed.
