Testimonies of Healing

Clear evidence of the harmonious action...

From the January 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Clear evidence of the harmonious action of infinite Mind was seen in an experience which occurred toward the end of my trip abroad in the summer of 1952. I had booked passage on a cargo ship which was scheduled to leave Hamburg, Germany, on September 3 or 4. I kept in constant touch with the ship's agents, giving them my address as I went along so that they could reach me in plenty of time should the sailing date be changed.

On Saturday, August 30, while I was in Sweden, the ship's agents wired me that my ship would sail Monday evening, September 1. For a moment I was panic stricken, for there was not time now to take the train. I called the travel bureau in Stockholm and asked the clerk to exchange my train reservations for an airline ticket. He told me that there was a plane leaving Monday which would arrive in Hamburg in time for me to sail and that he would reserve space for me on that flight. On Monday morning I went to the travel bureau with the expectation of picking up my ticket, but was told that there was no space on the plane, the only one scheduled for Hamburg that day.

Not for one moment did I accept the thought that there was no way out. The clerk tried every possible way to help me, but was unable to do so. I had with me the Christian Science pamphlet "Awake and Inherit," and I turned to the article entitled "Sufficiency," which I read several times before I could calm my fears enough to know what I was reading. The fear disappeared completely when I grasped a little of the meaning in this statement: "No part of God's creation can ever come to a situation in which there is lack. This truth is provable by anyone who will accept it and lean wholly upon it." I thought too about the work that had been done for me on this trip by a practitioner. His work had brought about my reservation on a French liner, when there appeared to be no reservation available, and had also resulted in lovely accommodations for me throughout the trip. I realized that all of this was evidence of the beautiful and perfect unfoldment of God's purpose, beheld through the far-reaching work of the practitioner.
