Our Master's words (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," have been proved many times in our family's endeavors to apply God's law to human problems. When the healing truth of Christian Science was brought to our attention seventeen years ago, we were faced with many problems— physical, financial, and social. Material means had failed to remedy them, but they were readily solved as we grew in the understanding of God's ever-presence.
In the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, we read (p. 149), "Whatever guides thought spiritually benefits mind and body." During her early study of the textbook my wife, with the loving help and guidance of a Christian Science practitioner, was completely healed of a severe case of arthritis, which had often rendered her helpless. She was much underweight, and this condition, too, was soon corrected.
When we were willing to be governed by Mind, we were both quickly healed of chronic constipation, from which we had suffered for years and which medical science and constant dieting failed to relieve. Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, says (ibid., p. 413), "Mind regulates the condition of the stomach, bowels, and food, the temperature of children and of men, and matter does not." For the realization of this great truth, I shall never cease to be grateful, for there has never been a suggestion of turning to material remedies in all these years. Inharmonious relationships have been beautifully corrected when we sought to see the man of God's creating and to obey our Master's command (Matt. 19:19), "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
