Christian Science reveals man's true identity to be the perfect child of God, not subject to deterioration, but ageless, deathless, and free. It makes plain to mankind the way of dominion over discord and decay through demonstration of man's oneness, or unity, with God.
Many passages in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy expose the fallacy of generally accepted theories about deterioration. For example, on page 78 we read: "The decaying flower, the blighted bud, the gnarled oak, the ferocious beast,—like the discords of disease, sin, and death—are unnatural. They are the falsities of sense, the changing deflections of mortal mind; they are not the eternal realities of Mind." The word "deflection" implies that false beliefs are departures from the straight course of logical reasoning, deviations from the spiritual facts of God and man.
Science reveals these true facts. It teaches that God is Spirit, incorporeal, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent. He is true substance, Life, Mind. He is all-inclusive, infinite Love. Science shows that in reality man is the image and likeness of God. The continuity of man's existence is ensured because he is the expression of Life, Love. His true senses are spiritual and forever unimpaired, for he reflects the substance of Soul, or Mind. Man is law-abiding and orderly, for he bears witness only to Principle. Armed with the true facts of being as taught by Christian Science, mankind can master the widespread belief that man is a mortal who deteriorates.
