LECTURE-GIVING OPPORTUNITIES

From the May 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Great deeds need great preparations. Surely the giving of a Christian Science lecture by a Church of Christ, Scientist, is the sharing of God's healing truth. It is an event that deserves wise and loving preparation. The agriculturist spends long hours and much effort cultivating the soil prior to the planting of his crops. The sowing of the seeds of Truth calls for equal care and attention. Through the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, Christian Scientists are well equipped with the necessary tools to prepare thoroughly the mental soil before each Christian Science lecture is given in their community.

The lecturer comes to deliver the lecture after the mental acres have been appropriately made ready for the sowing of the seed of Truth. Each church member can share in this important preparatory work.

The soil to be readied is human consciousness. Imbued with gratitude for the rich blessings that have come to us through Christian Science, we should see to it that our consciousness is free of the weeds of doubt, the debris of indifference, and the stones of prejudice and lethargy. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 473), "God is everywhere, and nothing apart from Him is present or has power." How potent and effective such a fact can be in clearing away all that would try to obstruct and interfere with the seed sowing.
