Prayer to Our Father-Mother

From the May 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Our Father in heaven, and our Mother,
Grant us to strongly feel
The pure animation of Thy will.

Bless us with patience.
How slow, perhaps, the going in the wilderness
To Caleb,
And tedious the delay to Joshua.
Still they persevered
And are revered by us.
Acquainting themselves with Thee,
They were at peace.
Delighting themselves in Thee,
They came triumphant through the desert years
Into the promised land.

Breathe on Thy holy purpose
With the free outpouring of Thy spirit.
Bestow proof of Thy presence.
Let us see
That a thousand years are as a day
To Thee and that the long watch in the night
Is glorified
With Love's midnight torches.

Give us the faith, the hope, the charity,
And the dignity of Soul
Which shall reveal with illumed clarity
Heaven's kingdom within us.

Gird us about and make us strong
With those divine, enduring qualities
Which disperse every wrong
As falsity.

More than all else,
Vouchsafe to us the gracious knowing
That compassion's bright and holy glowing
Ever accompanies the healing of the Christ.
