Christian Science is lived and practiced from the standpoint of the absolute allness and goodness of God and the perfection of man in His likeness. We always begin with the perfect model and consistently hold thought to it until the false beliefs of mortal mind yield to the divine facts of being and fade from human consciousness and existence. To maintain purity of thought, sound morals and integrity of character are indispensable. This purity comprises knowing the truth in one's heart, to which Christ Jesus referred when he said (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
Christian Scientists never begin with an imperfect model, a sick, sinful, unhappy mortal, and try to make him into a well, sinless, joyous immortal by the use of medication, hygiene, will power, or any other material method. If, however, a disease seems especially tenacious or a sin unyielding, we find it necessary to contend persistently for the perfection and wholeness of man. Then healing takes place, and we are able to perceive that spiritual man has remained unchanged, for he expresses the immutability of the Father.
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes (pp. 470, 471), "The relations of God and man, divine Principle and idea, are indestructible in Science; and Science knows no lapse from nor return to harmony, but holds the divine order or spiritual law, in which God and all that He creates are perfect and eternal, to have remained unchanged in its eternal history."
