"O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people" (Ps. 105: 1). I am deeply and humbly grateful to God for the practical value that the study and application of the teachings of Christian Science have brought into my experience.
When I began the study of Christian Science I was living alone in a large, strange city. I was financially poor and a new worker in the employ of a large national industry. Lacking formal education and being almost a beginner in the use of the English language, I found that the Bible and the authorized Christian Science literature helped me greatly to gain an improved command of English, both written and oral. This was a requirement for satisfactory progress in the highly competitive industry in which I was employed. In this connection The Christian Science Monitor, with its well-written news reports, editorials, and feature articles, was an immeasurable help to me during my forty years of business experience, and it still is my constant reading companion.
During the First World War, I was discharged from the service with a physical disability diagnosed by Army physicians as tuberculosis of both lungs. I immediately asked the aid of a Christian Science practitioner, who lovingly took up prayerful work for me. The healing was not instantaneous, but it was complete. This fact was verified in 1919, when I was required to have a thorough medical examination. No trace of the tuberculosis could be found. Other physical ills which have been quickly and permanently healed in Christian Science are influenza and sciatic rheumatism. Also I have found Science a most effective preventive agency.
