Students of Christian Science know that spiritual man includes proper place and proper employment. The problem of demonstrating this fact in our daily lives continually confronts us, and sometimes it seems to be very difficult. Humanly to find our right place and activity, we must have a spiritual understanding of what place and activity really are and of our relationship to them.
Where is our right place? The only place there is, is heaven. The real man, God's spiritual image, cannot come from any other place; he cannot go to any other place; he cannot be in any other place. These truths become apparent from a study of the definition of "heaven" as given by Mary Baker Eddy in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 587): "Harmony; the reign of Spirit; government by divine Principle; spirituality; bliss; the atmosphere of Soul." God, Spirit, fills all space; so we accept the fact that heaven, "the reign of Spirit," is everywhere. God, divine Principle, is omnipotent, supreme; so we accept the fact that heaven is the only government controlling man. When we understand these truths, we prove that we live in heaven, subject only to the laws of heaven.
We ask or pray to be properly employed. God is Life, Principle, and God is All; therefore the only activity is the operation of divine Principle, and our only true employment is to take our part in this activity. And we must take our part, our proper part, for man is not a mind or entity capable of independent or voluntary action. He is idea, the reflection of infinite Mind, God, the manifestation of Principle.
