It is with a heart full of gratitude that I testify to the bountiful blessings that I have received through the study of Christian Science. I am thankful for a religious mother and for the atmosphere of religious teaching in our home during my childhood.
When my husband was courting me he brought me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and we read it together. We have been studying this and other works of Mrs. Eddy's for over fifty years since that time. We have raised four children through reliance on Christian Science, and our eight grandchildren are being raised in the same manner. We all have had many wonderful proofs of God's love and protection. Our eldest son was healed of paralysis which had made him totally helpless. The condition began in one of his limbs, and by the next morning it was impossible for him to get out of bed. Soon he could not move any part of his body. However, through our prayerful work he was entirely healed and has never had a return of this trouble.
I contracted a form of skin poisoning, which manifested itself in the form of large sores. I tried to see myself as God's perfect child and to realize that the condition was no part of my real being. Also I held stanchly to the fact that nothing but good could happen to me. I declared the truth day and night for two weeks until I was completely healed. During this time I received loving help from my husband.
Another case of skin poisoning concerned our granddaughter, who contracted the ailment while she was at a summer camp. When she arrived home she was in the advanced stages of the condition, and she was very depressed. We worked prayerfully for her and told her that this trouble was no part of God's perfect child and that all space is filled with good, from which she could not possibly suffer. Soon she changed her thought, and in a few hours the condition completely disappeared.
Our grandson was taken very ill one Sunday morning. In two days he had lost the use of his entire body. His family are all Christian Scientists, and prayerful work for him was taken up. We knew that no child of God could experience any discord. He was healed, and by the following Saturday he was able to ride his bicycle downtown. He was in Sunday School on Sunday and in public school on Monday.
My husband and I have had class instruction and are grateful for the privilege of working in a branch church. Only by living the way our Master taught can we express our gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for Christian Science and for the fruitage it brings into our everyday life.— Anaheim, California.
