INFALLIBLE MAN

From the January 1957 issue of The Christian Science Journal

ONE cannot conceive of the principle of mathematics as variable or as deficient in any respect. It is inviolate, flawless, and so is every figure that it includes. Any mistake made in numbers is not in the numbers, but in ignorance of them. This line of reasoning helps us to grasp the undeviatingly perfect nature of Deity, divine Love. The Principle of being, God, does not change, err, or fail, nor does man, its perfect spiritual idea. Any element of friction or failure cannot be in man, but must be in ignorance of his inviolate spiritual selfhood.

Humanity is wrong, then, when it falsely believes that man is a fallible mortal, subject to disease and mistakes which can seriously affect his relationships, his health, and his progress. Material sense is not an accurate basis from which to judge ourselves or others. One's human experience and his character indicate faintly man's infinite possibilities. But how are we accurately to ascertain his real status? Turning to divine Science, we learn that man coexists with God, that he came forth from the Father. Man's background, therefore, cannot be improved, but our understanding of it can be improved until we perceive clearly that man is fashioned from the perfect qualities of Deity Himself and that his real nature is divine, infallible, infinite. Christ Jesus recognized this truth, for he commanded (Matt. 5:48), "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."

There are many salutary facts about Deity's infallible man. Being the son of divine Principle, man is immune to failure. There cannot be an omnipotent Principle and an incapable expression of it; hence man is never frustrated. There cannot be a perfect God and an imperfect man; hence man is eternally well. There cannot be an infinite Mind and an unsolved problem; therefore man, the reflection of the all-knowing, all-inclusive Mind, is never in doubt as to the right answer. As the expression of divine Mind he never lacks freshness, but constantly shows forth the freedom and unfettered inspiration of Soul, God.
