Testimonies of Healing

I have been so blessed in my experience...

From the March 1957 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have been so blessed in my experience by the application of Christian Science that I must share my heart's overflow in the hope it may help others to see what great good lies right where we are now, revealing itself to the awakened spiritual understanding.

I have known Christian Science all my life; I was enrolled in the Sunday School of a branch church at the age of two years and attended regularly until I was twenty. This wonderful truth was a priceless help to me all through my school days. It enabled me to overcome to a great extent self-consciousness and a fear of examinations, helped me to utilize Mind's ideas in maintaining good grades during a period of rather frequent moves about the country due to my father's work, and presented opportunities for the cultivating of wholesome friendships.

Through several intermittent years in the business world, I had the joyous experience of seeing right thinking, coupled with a conscientious human effort to do my best, bring about a series of raises and promotions rather rapidly, without my ever having to ask for them. My two sons were born harmoniously under Christian Science treatment, and they experienced many healings, among which were those of colds, fever, contagion, burns, a severe case of impetigo, and effects of accidents.

It became necessary for the boys and me to go on alone when they were quite small. It seemed like the end of the world to my frightened sense, but I found a bulwark in Mary Baker Eddy's statement in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (pp. 149, 150): "Remember, thou canst be brought into no condition, be it ever so severe, where Love has not been before thee and where its tender lesson is not awaiting thee." Love was indeed near to us, helping to overcome a sense of fear, confusion, and discouragement. Through Love's guidance, I developed a talent for dressmaking and general sewing which blessed all concerned. It enabled me to carry on a business in my home and still be with my children, and it provided me with more work than I could handle. We were proving what Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."

Within a year or so three schoolteachers approached me in regard to rooming and boarding in our spacious home, which was convenient to the schools. In the several years they lived with us, these women saw many remarkable instances of physical healing for the children, and as a direct result they periodically asked to attend church with us.

Due to a false sense of responsibility for my sons, I felt reluctant ever again to enter into a marriage partnership, although there were several opportunities in this period of seven or eight years. However, while attending a Christian Science lecture, I heard the lecturer quote from Isaiah (30:21), "Thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left." The lecturer went on to say that we can expect this divine guidance in choosing a life partner. Shortly thereafter I had the precious experience of meeting and marrying one who also has known Christian Science all his life. We have a lovely companionship, and our home is a happy example of the oneness of thought within.

There have been many lessons learned, and there are more to be learned, but I thank God for the spiritual tools with which to meet the challenge and tackle the job. I thank Him too for giving us Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, for Mrs. Eddy, the revelator of Truth to this age, and for the many loving Christian Science practitioners. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, class instruction, and abundant church activity. Truly the Bible promise (Joel 2:25), "I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten," has been fulfilled in my experience. All I have is due to Christian Science, and I have so much!—
