The testimonies in our periodicals have always been the source of much inspiration and healing to me. Now I too would like to add my testimony to those from many parts of the world who are giving voice to the healing effects of Christian Science.
One day a few years ago one of our sons came home from school with ivy poisoning. It was not long before it became evident that steps must be taken to heal what was becoming a serious condition. A Christian Science practitioner who was called agreed very lovingly to give support to the prayerful work we were doing at home. There were several important points to be handled in consciousness before the complete healing took place. The words (Gen. 1:31), "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good," helped us to see that there could be no poisonous or poisoned ideas in reality and therefore no evidence of them.
My prayers led me to a thorough search of the Glossary in the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. On page 589 this definition of the term "Japhet (Noah's son)" stood out very clearly: "A type of spiritual peace, flowing from the understanding that God is the divine Principle of all existence, and that man is His idea, the child of His care." Immediately I felt released from a false sense of responsibility and knew that God is the only parent of man, who is under His constant care.
