GOD, THE GIVER OF GOOD

From the November 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God is always giving of His goodness and perfection. In fact, it is the very nature of God to give. It is God's giving that supports man's being, and since God is exclusively good, He can bestow only goodness. The Bible declares (Gen. 1:31), "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good."

It is not possible for God, good, to impose upon His creation that which is evil. Materiality, mortality, sin, disease, and death are neither God-given nor real. They are but the conjectural, speculative impositions of false belief. Although seeming to be real, they are actually no more substantial or enduring than the belief which objectifies them.

God's giving is spiritual, not material. He gives life to every idea. He gives wisdom, love, purity, and health to every creature of His will. Man, we are assured in Christian Science, reflects God, divine Life. Man, then, expresses activity, energy, strength. Man reflects spiritual perfection and well-being, reflects holiness and harmony. The infinite qualities of God are bestowed on man without reservation or discrimination.
