STAND FAST

From the November 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God is steadfast, and he who really understands that he is the son of God knows that he is able to demonstrate steadfastness, regardless of any illusion mortal mind may present to him. Paul knew this, and out of a conviction born of his own experience, he strongly urged (Eph. 6:13), "Take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

Paul then detailed this armor. After speaking of truth and righteousness, he indicated the need for "the preparation of the gospel of peace; ... the shield of faith, . . . the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." Being panoplied in this spiritual armor, we are enabled to stand fast, to know ourselves as God's ideas, unchanging and unwavering, firmly established or fixed in Mind.

As the armor protecting us is vital to our safety, so the apprehension of the teachings of Christian Science is basic and vital. We must understand that God is All and that man is His image and likeness. This understanding girds us with the power of truth; it gives us our breastplate of righteousness.
