THE POSSIBILITIES OF REFLECTION

From the February 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One can never develop the full possibilities of manhood as long as he believes that mind is in brain, that life is in matter, that intelligence is in person. For even humanly speaking, brain, flesh, and the material personality are the products of so-called mortal mind, and this mind is not the product of matter.

But turning to Christian Science, the Science of real being, we learn that Mind, Life, and intelligence signify God and that man is the idea of God, capable of reflecting all that Mind is and includes. Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 331): "Life is Mind, the creator reflected in His creations. If He dwelt within what He creates, God would not be reflected but absorbed, and the Science of being would be forever lost through a mortal sense, which falsely testifies to a beginning and an end."

Man, who, according to the Scriptures, is God's image and likeness, reflects but does not absorb God. As reflection, he can know no limit of ability or activity, for God's likeness manifests all the attributes of Mind. Throughout history the ability of certain individuals to break down the limitations of the human mind has hinted the great possibilities of real manhood, which expresses the Christ, the unlimited, divine nature.
