GOOD WEATHER

From the February 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"There is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather." This saying was quoted by a certain Lord Avebury. Viewed from the standpoint of Christian Science, the statement is significant, for Science tends to remove from weather the fluctuations and furies of the carnal mind and to reveal true weather as it is in reality, wholly good. "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good," the Bible tells us (Gen. 1:31).

The fact that mankind generally looks upon the weather as a factor bearing upon health or sickness, pleasure or suffering, abundance or lack, even upon life or death, makes it essential for the Christian Scientist to take the weather out of the dream realm of mortal mind and see it in the light of good, where it becomes to him what it eternally is, good. God is the sole cause of His own perfect universe, and there is no other universe. The atmosphere of Spirit is neither destructive, disastrous, nor extreme.

"Mind, supreme over all its formations and governing them all, is the central sun of its own systems of ideas, the life and light of all its own vast creation; and man is tributary to divine Mind." This statement is from page 209 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Mind, the all-knowing intelligence, alone controls its infinite manifestation, man and the universe. One is self-controlled only by recognizing God's government as supreme in his life, as the only motivating power. The weather of earth responds to the spiritual understanding that God's creation is complete, that His atmosphere is perfect and harmonious, and that every factor in it is obedient to the Mind conceiving it.
