Isaiah, foretelling the coming of the Messiah, attributes to him this message (61:1, 2): "He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."
Today Christian Science presents to humanity the same Christ message thus foretold and is proving its value through the healing of the sick and the sinner. Speaking of her responsibility as the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy declares (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Pref., p. xi), "When God called the author to proclaim His Gospel to this age, there came also the charge to plant and water His vineyard."
Among the many avenues through which Mrs. Eddy made it possible for us to do our part today in planting and watering God's vineyard are the Christian Science periodicals. Each one of these publications was given a specific purpose and mission by her. More than fifty years ago the first foreign language periodical was established. On page 353 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," Mrs. Eddy declares, "I have given the name to all the Christian Science periodicals." In giving the names, she said that she intended "the third, Der Herold der Christian Science, to proclaim the universal activity and availability of Truth."
