THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF GOOD

From the March 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Man and his Maker are correlated in divine Science, and real consciousness is cognizant only of the things of God." This statement by Mary Baker Eddy appears on page 276 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." To learn that man is conscious only of God, good, removes fear and makes it possible for us not to be influenced by evil's suggestions.

One cannot be conscious of love and hate at the same time, or of health and sickness at the same instant. Nor can peace and turmoil occupy thought at the same time. Divine consciousness, or Mind, cannot be invaded by error, but is ever conscious of good alone. This consciousness is reflected by man.

Christian Science treatment tends to make us so conscious of the truth of being that falsity and error fade from thought and hence are not manifested in our lives. Eventually we see that evil does not belong to consciousness at all, but is only a presentment of the carnal mind, which is enmity against good, or God.
