WHAT WE CAN DO FOR CHURCH

From the March 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The love for church and a sincere desire to serve the Cause of Christian Science are usually characteristics of the student of this religion. The study and application of the truths taught by Science bring healing and freedom to the human consciousness. From the depths of a grateful heart, the question is frequently asked, "What can I do for the church to help expand its activities in bringing to mankind this wonderful truth which teaches the new and satisfying way of life?"

In the sixteenth chapter of Matthew, Christ Jesus, speaking of the church which he would build upon a rock, said, "The gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

Referring to this church, Mary Baker Eddy writes in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 136), "Jesus established his church and maintained his mission on a spiritual foundation of Christ-healing." The Master inspired in his disciples spirituality, which enabled them to heal the sick. He taught them the truth, which, when understood, continues to bring freedom from sickness and sin.
