THE WRITTEN EXPRESSION

From the February 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In "Retrospection and Introspection," Mary Baker Eddy tells of the unfoldment of her ability to express in writing the absolute Science of Mind-healing which God revealed to her. She says of divine Science (p. 27), "Its natural manifestation is beautiful and euphonious, but its written expression increases in power and perfection under the guidance of the great Master." She continues, "The divine hand led me into a new world of light and Life, a fresh universe—old to God, but new to His 'little one.' "

Later, in her founding of Christian Science, Mrs. Eddy established the periodicals which, according to the Manual of The Mother Church written by her, are the organs of her Church (see Article VIII, Sect. 14). Thus she gave the members of The Mother Church an opportunity to contribute to the written expression of Science, to share their spiritual inspiration and healing experiences, and to show the adaptation of Science to the times in which they live.

Christ Jesus hinted the perpetual development of the truth to human thought when he said to his disciples (John 16:12), "I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now." Christian Science fulfills his prophecy that a Comforter would come which would teach men all things. Mrs. Eddy's discovery is complete and final; but her followers will always find fresh views of the basic truths of being which the application of Science to human experience calls forth.
