WHAT SHALL WE CLAIM?

From the February 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Be still, and know that I am God," we read in verse 10 of Psalm 46. Through following this counsel, which leads to the joyous discovery of God's allness, we prove the concluding lines of the same verse, "I will be exalted in the earth."

As students of Christian Science, we learn that since God is good, and He is All, all must be good. We sometimes use the word "claim" when referring to sickness or some other error. This is a convenient term; yet we who employ it must take heed that we do not become claimants of the evil we are thus naming.

One definition of the word "claim" reads, "That which one claims." This implies that a claim must depend for existence on a claimant. Furthermore, it can be readily reasoned that whether a claim is true or false is determined by the nature of the claimant. Let us analyze the two original claims and look into the natures of their claimants.
