ACT WITHOUT DELAY

From the February 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Every day we are confronted with problems which call for our immediate attention. When handled at once they usually can be corrected easily; whereas delay often proves costly, painful, and time-consuming. The old axiom "a stitch in time may save nine" has merit. Maybe a crack appears in the ceiling, a seam in a garment opens, a misunderstanding arises in human relations, a suggestion of physical disorder is evident in the body, or an unlovely trait of character argues for acceptance in thought.

Whatever the problem appears to be, it should be met and mastered at once. Procrastination will only seem to multiply the difficulties, and in time the unarrested problems will appear to avalanche.

The foolish virgins, according to the Gospel of Matthew, earned their appellation because they failed to provide themselves with oil for their lamps. At midnight when the bridegroom's coming was announced and they needed light by which to see him, they found themselves in darkness.
